Field Hockey:

Field hockey won all three games this week. First, the team beat St. Dominic, 3-0. Then, on Oct. 22, they beat Clayton 3-0. The next day, after a scoreless regulation and double overtime, senior Anya Shawke, junior Lene Rossouw and sophomore Peyton Kimack all scored goals during a shootout. With senior goalie Sabrina Epstein defending Lafayette’s goal, the Lancers beat the previously undefeated Lindbergh Flyers, 1-0. Lafayette is now first in the Suburban Conference Yellow Pool standings and will be advancing to the State Quarterfinals on Oct. 26 against John Burroughs. Earlier this season the Lancers lost to Burroughs, 3-0 at the end of a six-game losing streak. But currently the Lancers are on a roll winning their last eight in a row. The game starts at 6 p.m.

Football:

In their last regular season game, Lafayette took on Ritenour in an away game. The Lancers were victorious with a final score of 35-6. Senior Kevin Fowler scored his first touchdown of the game in the first quarter. Sophomore Zakaylen Jones scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, followed by Fowler’s second touchdown in the third. Jones scored again in the third quarter. Each touchdown was followed by a successful extra-point kick, scored by junior Brayden Kladney. Two of Jones’ touchdowns were scored on passes by senior quarterback Brandon Keen. With their regular season concluded, the Lancers (4-5) will be heading into the playoffs, taking on Parkway West (7-2) on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. at West.

Girls Golf:

The girls golf team placed fifth at the Missouri Class 4 State Championship with a score of 689. The team was led by freshman Abby Surber, who earned All-State status with an 11th place state medal. Senior Grace Stafford finished in 19th place. Seniors Caroline Boyette and Kate Worley also finished strong on the second day. The girls ended the season with an even 5-5 record overall.

Boys Soccer:

The Lancers started the week with a 2-1 loss to Fort Zumwalt South. The lone Lancer goal came from sophomore Matheus Gasparino off an assist by sophomore Blake Klostermann. In their second game of the week, against Kirkwood, boys soccer tied, 1-1, with the goal scored by sophomore Aidan Nemnich with an assist by Gasparino. However, the Lancers came in strong with a 4-1 win against Pattonville with two goals by junior Wes Jennings and one a piece by Klostermann and freshman Sam Kalish, his first career goal at Lafayette. Their overall record sits at 12-11-1. On Oct. 26, the Lancers take on Fort Zumwalt West away. After that, Lafayette plays host to the Class 4, District 2 Tournament, where the team has the fourth seed. Districts are set to begin Nov. 1.

Boys Swimming and Diving:

On Senior Night, boys swimming and diving beat Eureka, 116-68. Senior Devon Gordon qualified for diving Districts with a score of 247 and freshman Jackson Tenny qualified with a score of 220. The next day, the boys fell to Kirkwood, 127-59. Over the weekend, they competed in the Springfield Invitational where sophomore Caleb Warner placed first in the 100 breaststroke and second in the 200 individual medley, sophomore Sam Bolla placed sixth in the 100 butterfly and senior captain Ethan Xu placed sixth in the 500 freestyle. Also, Bolla, sophomore Gregory Shao, freshman Ryan Huang and Warner placed fifth in the 200 medley relay.

Girls Volleyball:

Prior to their District matchup on Oct. 25, Borgia (29-4) and Lafayette (30-4-1) have been two of the best teams in high school volleyball. In their regular season matchup, Borgia got the best of the Lancers in five games. Entering the playoffs, the Lancers have the second seed behind Eureka (29-3). On the serving side, sophomore Alyssa Nelson leads the team this season with 450 total serves and a 96% serving percentage. When it comes to the team’s attack, junior Caitlyn Little leads the team with 235 kills, and defensively, junior Amber Wilt leads the team with 74 blocks for the season. The team plays Borgia at 6:15 p.m. for the chance to face the winner of the Eureka vs. Francis Howell match-up which is at 5 p.m. for the District Championship  on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at Borgia.
