Boys Cross Country:

Participating in the St. Louis Suburban Conference Championships, the Lancers captured second place overall with 80 points, 27 points behind first-place finisher Kirkwood. Senior Nikolas Malek took third place individually with a time of 16:12.08 and junior Lukas Groenewald finished in fifth place individually with a time of 16:29.68.

Girls Cross Country:

After a gap week, the Lady Lancers came back strong with a first overall finish at their meet on Oct. 16. The Suburban Conference ended with junior Grace Tyson placing first individual finish with a time of 18:28.21. Tyson has consistently been in the top five this season and is ranked second on the Long Courses Honor Roll. Sophomore Natalie Barnard and her sister, junior Elissa Barnard, got the next two highest individual finishes, with a seventh (19:46.68) and a tenth (20:03.06) individual finish, respectively. The Lady Lancers will have their last meet on Oct. 30 at the MSHSAA District Championships.

Esports:

The Lancers started off the week with a win over Nixa High School in Rocket League, 3-0. They continued their win streak, taking three out of the five maps of Overwatch against Francis Howell Central.

Field Hockey:

The Lancers took a 6-1 victory over Clayton on Oct. 11. On Oct. 13, they beat Nerinx Hall 1-0, with sophomore Olivia Williams scoring the game-winning goal. Williams leads the team, fourth in her division, with 17 goals and seven assists. They also held their Teacher Appreciation Night. Each player invited a teacher to the game, and the team put together a video explaining why each teacher was chosen in addition to giving their chosen teacher a decorated cardboard field hockey stick with messages on them. Field hockey finished out their regular season with a 12-9-1 record.

Football:

The Lancers ditched the Friday night lights this week for their only Thursday game of the season so far. On Oct. 14, Lafayette earned a shutout victory, 35-0, against Parkway Central. In the second quarter, senior Owen Butler and sophomore Zakaylen Jones each scored a touchdown, with Jones subsequently scoring on a two-point conversion run. In the third quarter, senior Kevin Fowler scored back-to-back touchdowns, with the final touchdown being scored by senior Jonathan Marshall. Junior Brayden Kladney kicked extra points for all three touchdowns of the third quarter. The Lancers will play their final game of the regular season at Ritenour on Oct. 22.

Girls Golf:

In the Class 4 District 1 tournament, the results have determined Lafayette, including freshman Abby Surber will be participating in the Missouri Class 4 State Championship after they placed second. The first round will take place on Oct. 18 at the Rivercut golf course at 6 p.m.

Boys Soccer:

This week, the Lancers dominated all three of their games. The first was against Hazelwood West where they won 8-0. Senior captain Kaden Karr led the game with half of the goals scored while senior Diego Salem-Pon scored two and seniors Thomas Gardet and Akram Errachidi each scored one. They continued their win streak with a 3-2 win over Westminster, which evened out their record 10-10. Karr, junior Wes Jennings and sophomore Blake Klostermann all had goals in the game, with Karr scoring the game-winning goal in the second half. To finish off their week, boys soccer hosted their Senior Night. They battled Timberland into double overtime but Karr led the team to a 2-1 victory with his third game-winning goal of the week. He still holds the highest amount of goals and assists on the team with 14 goals, six of which were game-winning goals, and nine assists. “One of my grandparents that lives in Illinois took the trip over and it was a good feeling to see them up in the stands cheering after I scored. The feeling of winning on Senior Night was special. Seeing all the seniors’ excitement was something that will stick with me for a long time,” Karr said. After his overtime goal, Karr slid across the turf on his knees, fulfilling a promise to his team. “When I scored, the only thing that was going through my head was the knee slide I was going to do. Before [overtime] started, I told the boys that the knee slide was coming because I was confident we were winning that game. I felt very happy to see all the boys get what they deserved, the win after everybody played an amazing game,” Karr said. This upcoming week, boys soccer will take on Pattonville at 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Softball:

Lafayette finished their fall season this week with a landslide 8-0 victory against Kirkwood on Oct. 12. Senior Kaley Adzick led the team with six RBIs due to her two three-run home-runs, the first of the season for the Lady Lancers. In the second round of the District Tournament, the Lady Lancers lost a close game against District rival Marquette on Oct. 13, ending the season with a record of 16-13.

Boys Swimming and Diving:

The Lancers lost to Marquette 118-68 in their meet on Oct. 12. This week, they will be hosting their Senior Night meet against Eureka on Oct. 18.

Girls Tennis:

The varsity tennis girls team played a final game at St. Joseph Academy, losing 5-0 in Team Sectionals on Oct. 12. The team made it to State and played at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri for the MSHSAA Individual State Championships on Oct. 14. Senior Thrisha Kosaraju and junior Saanvi Gudreddi both won Individuals Districts as doubles partners at their previous match and competed at State, where Gudreddi and Kosaraju lost to Visitation Academy in the quarterfinals, 6-3, and their other matches were tiebreakers. While they didn’t win, Gudreddi is proud of her team and how they played this season. “It was a lot of fun as always. We did have some serious injuries on our team which made some players sit out, but they were still there to cheer everyone on,” Gudreddi said.

Girls Volleyball:

On Oct.12, girls volleyball took on Borgia and lost in 5 games. They then took Eureka in the biggest game of the year on Oct. 14 and lost in 5 sets despite an impressive 20 kills from sophomore Allison Risley. The Battle of 109 didn’t disappoint as it went into extra sets. The Lancers must’ve taken the loss to Eureka personally as they went on to win 6 straight on Oct. 16 in Ozark. Their next game will be an away game rematch against Borgia on Oct. 25.
