Boys basketball takes victory in final seconds against Francis Howell, wrestling continues to dominate competition

Boys Basketball
The Lancers took on Francis Howell at home, in a battle that came down to the last seconds and gave the Lancers a 75-74 in in their first home game. The team now stands 3-1. Junior Matt Haefner had the game-winning shot with just two seconds left, and he had a total of 36 points in the game. On Dec. 17, the Lancers take on District rival Marquette at 7 p.m. at home.
Girls Basketball
After three consecutive losses during the Marquette Tournament, the Lady Lancers came back with a vengeance with a win Dec. 7 against the Clayton Greyhounds, 64-57. Then in their home opener on Dec. 10, taking on the Francis Howell Vikings for the second time, the Lancers won, 52-45. Lead scorers were seniors Lily Zehner with 13 points and Andrya Roach with 12. The team will have its next game on Dec. 14 against the Oakville Tigers at 7 p.m.
Hockey
The Lancers faced off against the Vianney Golden Griffins on Dec. 10, tying the game 3-3 and improving from their 7-1 loss against them on Nov. 15. The goals were scored by seniors Jack Carrico and Nathaniel Orf and by freshman Alem Garibovic. Orf was proud of the way that the team played against the Griffins this time around. “The tie just proved to the team that when we work hard we can see success,” he said. After scoring, Orf was also excited to keep the team hyped up for the rest of the game. “It was a great feeling knowing I helped contribute to the tie. It’s very rewarding when the hard works pays off,” Orf said. “My goal helped keep the team motivated and working hard throughout the entirety of the game and that always feels awesome.” Lafayette’s next game will be against Edwardsville on Dec. 17 at Maryville Hockey Center at 8 p.m.
Girls Swimming and Diving
On Dec. 9, girls swimming and diving hosted Ladue at home, winning 134-52. This week the team faces Lindbergh on Dec. 14 and Parkway Central on Dec. 16. On their performance this week, senior Dylan Moulton said, “We kind of expected to win with our good work ethic and how we have performed against them in the past. We have a solid team this year and are looking forward to our more competitive meets like Marquette and Parkway South.”
Boys Wrestling
The Lancers continue their strong start this season destroying Marquette, 66-12 on Dec. 5. Their next match is Dec. 15. against Lindbergh at 5 p.m. “I think our team’s chemistry is great this year. I feel fast, I feel quick and my couches switched my style(s) so I’m able to wrestle bigger guys than me. I think that our team is great and everyone has potential this year,” senior Tommy Hagan said.
Girls Wrestling
The varsity team beat Francis Howell, 45-36, Waynesville, 43-30 and Wentzville Holt, 30-27 on Dec. 7 at Francis Howell. On Dec. 8, the team took down Marquette, 42-39. Later on Dec. 10, the girls finished third at the Wentzville Liberty Tournament. Junior Jayla Jones and sophomore Maddie Johnson took first place in their categories overall, while freshman Hannah Henderson took third. The team wrestles against Lindbergh Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. in the Main Gym.
