Sustaining their flawless 12-0 record, the Lancers defeated Eureka Wildcats with a score of 13-7 on Nov. 10 to advance to State semifinals. Leading the Suburban West Conference in all three categories, Lafayette is ranked No. 6 in large school rankings.
Senior Shacquille Holley ran an interception back 82 yards for the only touchdown of the game Lancers . Using their running game as a strategy, senior Deonte Robinson rushed for 136 yards and junior Kevin Hampton rushed for 68.
“The game was all about defense. We struggled with scoring on offense and getting into the red zone,” junior Jamel Smith said.
In their first battle in the beginning of the season, Lafayette was able clinch the victory with a score of 35-14. This time, both teams played tough defense, resulting in a lower scoring game.
For the first time since 1989, Coach Boyd Manne and the Lancers will enter the State semifinals. They face Francis Howell on Friday, Nov. 16.
“In order to win, we have to play some great offense. This is a great group of guys though, I believe we will come together and hopefully continue our winning streak,” Smith said.
