Pain in the iOS: Was iOS 7 really worth the hype?

I absolutely had no idea that Apple was coming out with a new iOS. My first time hearing about it was during first hour on the day it was being released.

“It’s going to be awesome!”

“Noon today!”

“Where will I find wifi?”

“Ha Ha, sucks for you! I have lunch during that hour!”

I was hearing from most of the people in my class that the new update was going to be super cool; a new design, backgrounds, sounds, camera, etc. I even started getting excited for it!

Once I got home, I immediately backed up my data on my iPod 5th generation and deleting all the apps on my iPhone 4. Apparently the new software needed 2.9 GB to download.

Then I clicked “Update.”

Of course, it took FOREVER to download, but I figured it’s going to be worth the wait.

Yeah, not so much.

Downsides:

  • It made my iPhone 4 super slow
  • I don’t understand the “3D” background. It just moves the picture when I tilt the phone. It’s weird.
  • The clock on the lock screen is hard to read with most of the backgrounds.
  • The new calendar is all whacky.
  • Why are the apps gradient?
  • The new music player that shows up on the lock screen with some of the utilities is confusing.

Overall, it’s driving me insane to have to relearn what I should already know how to do. But, there are a few good things that came out of iOS 7.

Upsides:

  • The camera. I absolutely love the camera on my iPod 5th generation! The filters are cool and the ability to take multiple pictures at a time is neat.
  • Safari. The new setup of Safari makes it easier to search and get to my recently visited sites.

Apple was going in the right direction with a few features, like iTunes radio, but it’s just not quite there. iTunes radio was a good idea, but it still doesn’t compare to Pandora.

I guess I can understand why Apple created iOS 7. There are so many companies coming out with phones and music players that rival the infamous iPhone and iPod, and Apple had to create some new hype to get people talking so costumers would go out and buy the iPhone 5s and 5c.

Unfortunately, I believe the iOS 7 was a ginormous fail on Apple’s part.
