Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel was named the first freshmen in history to win the Heisman Trophy this past Saturday.
The red shirt freshman had an outstanding season, starting with the first game where he was the first freshman quarterback since 1944 to be in the starting line-up for the Aggies.
Manziel led his team to an impressive 6-2 record as their first year in the SEC. One of these wins was against 2nd nationally ranked Alabama where the Aggies defeated the Crimson Tides 29-24. The Aggies continue to be the only loss for Alabama as the Tides head to the Discover BSC National Championships against 1st ranked Notre Dame.
Manziel, a Kerrville, Texas, native, has also logged 3,419 passing yards and 1,181 rushing yards to become just the fifth player – and first freshman – in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision history to throw for 3,000 or more yards and rush for 1,000 or more yards in the same season.
Manziel currently leads the SEC in rushing yards (1,182) and total touchdowns (43) while also setting the record for total yards in a season with 4,600.
Against Arkansas on Sept. 29, Manziel racked up 557 yards of total offense to break Archie Manning’s SEC record for total offense in a single game. He then re-broke that record with 576 yards vs. Louisiana Tech on Oct. 13.
Along with winning the Heisman, Manziel was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year last Wednesday.
Manziel is an amazing player, as proven with the term given to him “Johnny Football.” “Johnny Football” has blown college football away as one of the best quarterbacks in history. Even though he is a Freshman, the Heisman has been given to the person who deserved it the most. If anyone thinks differently, check every sports channel and they will see the nation is completely blown away by “Johnny Football.”
The newest name Manziel has acquired is “Johnny Heisman,” for the amazing feat of winning the Heisman as the youngest player in Heisman award history.
Gig’em Aggies!
