“We started planning the show in the summertime, around the beginning of July. We basically have a brand new team and we wanted to get them on stage in a way where they were comfortable to be themselves,” senior captain of Undefined, Surayya Cazembe, said.

On Thursday, Aug. 26, Lafayette’s improv comedy team, Undefined, will be hosting a show at 7 p.m. in the parking lot outside the entrance of the school facing Highway 109. 

This will be the first show of the 2021-2022 school year and is in honor of language arts teacher Jenny Ingram, who over the summer was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

“I have known her ever since I started teaching here. She is just a positive light and anytime I hang out with her it’s always a happy moment. She posted on her Instagram story about getting diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer again and I wanted to help her because she is always reaching out to other people, but I knew that I could put on a show to help raise a little money for her,” theatre teacher Natasha Fischer said.

In March of 2021, Ingram reached her five-year anniversary of being cancer-free. She thought that it would return when she was a little bit older, so she was shocked that it came back this early but with all the support from her co-workers and friends, she felt very loved.

“I am just so overwhelmed by people’s kindness and generosity. I get emotional and it’s because of a response to someone’s kindness. I tend to get emotional when I reflect on how blessed I am and how loved I am by my family and friends,” Ingram said.

With the show being in honor of Ingram, the admission is free, but Undefined is asking for those who attend to donate to Ingram’s GoFundMe. For more information about Ms. Ingram’s situation and her GoFundMe, scan the QR code.

In addition, brownies and cookies from Chick-Fil-A will be available. An area will be set up for picnic seating in addition to the general seating.

Junior Summer Behnen is a new member of the team and this show will be her first.

“[After] seeing it on stage at school and seeing some of my friends on improv I wanted to try out. I’m really excited for my first show, I’m nervous I’ll say something that isn’t funny, but overall I’m excited,” Behnen said.

Despite the fact that this show will be over half the team’s first time performing with Undefined, senior captain Jake Bingham is confident in the team’s ability and is looking forward to the show.

“I’m very confident with this team but a lot of them are new to improv. [With] this show being very early in the year, to an extent I’m worried that they are missing the experience of performing but I’m pretty confident,” Bingham said.
