The Rockwood School District has put out a survey on the subject of a possible upcoming schedule change. The middle school design committee has already approved making a change in its start and end time, and the high school committee is asking the community for feedback on the subject.

Principal John Shaughnessy said this schedule change would go into affect for the 2018-2019 school year.

The extra-curricular activities schedules will be affected and many members from both the middle and high school committees are concerned about how the change could impact students and families. Also, the Zero Hour classes would be affected greatly by the change.

The proposed new start times and end times for the schools would be:

• 7:55 a.m. to 2:47 p.m.
• 8:30 a.m. to 3:19 p.m.
• 9:05 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

The top time tiers are for either high school students or middle school students. Elementary students will have the latest tier from 9:05 a.m.-3:55 a.m.

“I’m glad that [the Rockwood School District] is taking their time to collect information on what the students want. I want what’s best for the community,” Karen Calcaterra, administrator, said.

Committee members are asking parents, students and staff members to take the survey in order to determine which time tier is preferred for the middle and high school levels. The survey closes on May 19.
