As the first semester begins to come to an end, the Class of 2011 has startedsenior memory makers starting with the Mother-Daughter Brunch held Saturday, Nov. 20.
The event was held at the Doubletree Hotel where 70 senior women and their mothers had brunch, exchanged written notes to each other and ended the afternoon with two rounds of bunco.
In previous years, the Mother-Daughter event for the Senior Class has been centered around a luncheon and fashion show but the Class of 2010 elected to change up the usual format.
“The Class of 2010 decided to change it to a brunch and bunco with the idea being that all could participate and served 128 people. We liked the idea and continued with bunco and have 141 attending – this represents 70 students. We were pleased [with the participation] as we wondered what effect the economy would have,” Co-Senior Director Heidi Aslin said.
Aslin also explained the sentimental value the event holds.
She said, “I think the significance of the event is twofold. One, it sets aside time for moms and their daughters to be together and enjoy each other, senior year can be crazy busy for all. And two, it is very meaningful as mother and daughter have an opportunity to write a personal note to each other. Often, we don’t take the time to tell our loved ones how much we love and appreciate each other and this event provides that opportunity.”
“The brunch was something I’ll remember as a part of my senior year. My mom and I had never played bunco before so it was fun trying to figure out how to play,” senior Taylor Stewart said, “Overall, it was a fun morning that my mom and I shared together.”
Aslin concluded, “The very best part for me was looking out over the crowd and seeing lots of laughing, smiling faces. Everyone seemed really excited for all the winners of the prizes and raffles. It was a success due to the very creative, energetic mothers of sons on my committee who worked very hard to make the day enjoyable.”
The Class of 2011 will also have spring semester events to look forward to at the Doubletree Hotel including the Father-Daughter Dance and Mother-Son brunch both on March 12 and Senior Celebration after the Graduation on May 25.
