Humans of Lafayette: Meet Jacob Wieher
March 23, 2016
Apart from playing on Lafayette’s baseball team and traveling for his summer team, sophomore Jacob Wieher takes part in another hobby of his. Aside from the grueling heat of baseball, Wieher finds solace in classic video games.
Wieher first got into video games when he was young, purchasing a Nintendo DS Lite. With his DS Lite, he was able to play a wide variety of games that gave him the platform to explore classic Nintendo games. Wieher said, “I don’t really remember the first time I played. It was probably a Mario game for Nintendo DS… like the new Super Mario Bros. or Mario Kart.”
But the Mario series wasn’t what catapulted him into gaming. Wieher said, “When I first played The Legend of Zelda, I fell in love with it. I wanted to explore the rest of the series from the beginning all the way to now.”
The Legend of Zelda is only made for Nintendo, so Wieher eventually purchased a Nintendo 3DS with the goal of playing his favorite game, “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess”. After that, Wieher dived deeper into his hobby and purchased the Wii U which was initially released in 2012. The good news for Wieher is that Legend of Zelda is slated to release a new title for the Wii U in 2016.
Wieher said, “The new Zelda game for Wii U is looking amazing. There isn’t a release date either. Overall, there’s very little known about the game though, but that doesn’t stop me or any other fans from being beyond excited about it and what it might bring to the series.”
In the future, Wieher hopes to continue collecting gaming systems. Wieher said, “It would be cool to own the original systems that were first released like the Atari or the NES.”
