A Look Back: Parking Lot Madness

Kira Downing, Reporter

Back on Sept. 14, 2001, Lafayette was struggling with parking lot issues. There were not enough spaces in the front parking lot; therefore, the bus parking lot was used.

However, only by the Cooperative Occupational Education (COE) students were granted access to use it. All of the cars in the bus parking lot had to be cleared by a certain time to ensure a spot for the buses when they arrived.

Another new thing back then was the numbers on each individual parking space. The fresh numbers helped to assign students a spot to park and help the administration to organize the lot.

Although we do not face these same problems currently, we do still have parking lot problems. Space and area are two of the biggest  problems. Every year there are a few students who are disappointed with their spot or area that their spot is in.

Besides space, some students are upset that they do not get a spot at all, whether that is because they did not pay for one on time or because they aren’t able to drive until the middle of the year.

Fifteen years later, we are still facing parking lot problems.
