While many high school student spend hours sitting tables, folding clothes in the mall or watching over kids at their neighborhood pool to pick up some extra cash, junior Abby Harbor finds her job a little more enjoyable than most.
“This was my first summer working at the Magic House,” Harbor said, “It’s a really fun job. You can run around [the Magic House] with all the little kids and play dress up.”
Harbor further explained what a typical shift is like at the Magic House.
“There are eight different rotations, so the job is really hands on and a lot like babysitting,” she said.
The Magic House also hosts many birthday parties for young children.
Harbor said, “[During the birthday parties] you get to dress up with the kids as pirates and then bake cupcakes together. It’s really fun.”
When Harbor was younger, she said she visited the Magic House often. “I went to the Magic House when I was little mainly because my aunt worked here and it’s a perfect play house for kids.”
Harbor said she feels luckily to have her unique job and plans to continue working at the Magic House.
She added, “All of my friends who have jobs either sit and lifeguard all day or are a hostess. But my job is all about interaction, so I get to run around and have fun for work.”
