Girls Soccer
Before spring break, soccer tryouts had already happened and the teams were made. They started practices and senior Claire Lister was ready to start playing and learning with her team.
“Before the outbreak, we had just solidified our three levels of teams, so we were beginning to explore what our team would look like positionally. We also started practicing set plays like corner kicks, free kicks and penalty shots. Of course, fitness is a huge factor too, so running has been a constant since the first day of tryouts,” Lister said.
Senior Zoe Hertlein and her teammates have been texting about different workouts and giving each other ideas to stay in shape.
Despite not being able to start their season when they had hoped, they are all doing their best to “stay healthy and get touches on the ball too,” Hertlein said.
Rockwood School District (RSD) is scheduled to go back to school on April 22. Therefore, the girls are holding out hope to play at least a few games.
“We’re still trying to keep a positive attitude about the season,” Hertlein said.
And because of the COVID-19 outbreak, seniors may not get to play their senior season.
“I will miss the people the most. The coaching staff this year is outstanding at all levels, and I would be upset to miss out on the opportunity to play for such dedicated and capable coaches. Most of all, I would be heartbroken to lose my last season with my teammates,” Lister said.
