Over the summer, signs were added above room doors. This change was implemented throughout the district in order to make the schools easier to navigate in case of a fire emergency.

As directed by the fire department, new signs have been added to the school building for better visibility during emergencies.

“The fire department wanted a more clear vision of our hallways, should we be in some sort of crisis. This is an initiative that [they] came up with in the spring that they wanted all Rockwood schools to have in place” Associate Principal Michael Franklin said.

The fire department began installing the signs over the summer and will have them completed by the first day of school.

Different parts of the building will have different colored signs, to make communication between the fire department and ground troops easier. To prevent confusion with bathroom passes, most signs match the color of the respective area’s bathroom pass.

“[The fire department] is going to have the information on where each room is according to the color of each hallway,” Franklin said.

Franklin also pointed out that the signs may serve an extra purpose, as they will help students, especially freshmen, navigate through the school and find their classes.

“It’s hard for freshmen to know where they’re going,” Franklin said “So I think this will clear up the flow of traffic.”
