Currently sitting a record of 6-3-1, the varsity girls soccer team has had a solid start to the season. Thanks to terrific goalie play by freshmen Natalie Phelps and a very balanced offensive attack, the team has gotten off to their best start since the 2014-2015 season.

Phelps has been providing a lock-down presence while playing goalie as she has played 660 minutes so far and is responsible for six wins, one loss and one tie. On top of that, she has only allowed two goals compared to 21 saves thus far and has completed six shut-out games.

“Natalie has done a great job,” Head Coach Tim Walters said. “Both keepers have made us much better in that position.”

On the flip side, the offense has provided a well-balanced attack that has proven to be very resourceful for the team. A total of 10 different players have scored a goal and only one player, Kendra Erickson, has scored more than one goal. There is no better example of a balanced offense than the Lady Lancers soccer team, but Walters was a little more indifferent towards that thought.

“I really don’t call it balanced scoring with one goal each,” Walters said. “It would be nice if it was a few players with five goals each.”

The team’s next game is set to be against Fort Zumwalt South (5-8-2) at Summit High School on April 24, starting at 4 p.m.
