The Lafayette wrestling program managed to bring home its first team plaque since 1992 taking fourth place at the State tournament in Columbia. This past weekend also saw six people on the squad place and win a medal. The shining star of these wrestlers was Austin Stofer who won a thriller in overtime in the semifinals to make it to the State final, where he lost and placed second.

“It was definitely a good way to end my career as a wrestler at Lafayette,” Stofer said. “Definitely not satisfied unless you get in first, but I think I’ve come a long way over the past four years as a wrestler and it was definitely a good way to end my season. I think at the beginning of the year, not many people expected us to get to where we are now, even people on our own team, but as the year went on we kind of all realized what we’re capable of and we went to the State tournament and we got it done.”

It was a solid season for the Lancers wrestling program. Not only did they achieve their goal of winning a plaque at State as a team, but really went “Through the Wall” as their coaches intended. Despite a strong group of seniors graduating, the Lafayette wrestling program has a talented group of underclassmen who will keep the wrestling program in the papers. Jayden and Jaylen Carson, Cam Wegener and Austin Wegener are just a few athletes who made the trip to State this year and will provide stability and leadership for the team next year.
