Water polo performed very well last weekend at the Lafayette Invitational, coming in second place overall and going on a four-game winning streak. They ultimately lost to third ranked Parkway West in the final game 6-4, but it was a big improvement over the earlier loss to the Longhorns that was 16-4.

Lafayette’s Josh Reiter did a stellar job containing Parkway West’s Mitchell Griffin, who is often regarded as the best players in the state of Missouri by opposing coaches and players.

Compared to their defeat from Mar. 27, the Lancers played a much closer, much tougher game, and were much more tight with their defending.

Most of the goals let up by the Lancers in the final were fast-break swims that caught the back-line off guard and that the Longhorns were able to capitalize on.

The tournament, overall, was a successful one for the Lancers. Before the tournament, they came off as a team that was inconsistent but showed flashes of great play that were bogged down by lapses in concentration and awareness. During their winning streak and even in the final, they displayed all of that potential and more, and confirming themselves as being able to hang with the best of teams.
