It hasn’t been the greatest start for the varsity girls lacrosse team, but they’re making the best of it.

According to stlhighschoolsports.com, the team is sitting at a record of 2-3 and has played in one tournament thus far. The team opened their season with a 11-7 loss to rival Eureka and then lost to St. Teresa’s 12-4 the next day. The team picked up their first wins in the tournament and ended up going 2-1.

The team would have played another two games, but with the stormy weather this year in spring sports, the girls lacrosse team, as well as many other spring sports teams, have had to cancel games, practices and other events.

Despite the inclement weather being a hindrance towards playing time, there is a benefit. With a couple early season injuries to star players like Lauren Youngquist, the team has been missing key parts of the squad. But, with the games off and more rest time, it gives these injured players time to rest and recuperate. The Lady Lancers have gotten off to a rough start, but the team has plenty of opportunities to turn their season around especially when the injured players return.

Earlier this season in an interview with Head Coach Carrie Guenzler, she had set the goal to have the offensive players have as many assists as goals in order for the team to have a successful season. Five games into the season the team has done a decent job of attempting to accomplish Guenzler’s goals as they currently have a ratio of four goals to one assist.

With a plethora of talent on the team, expect the girls lacrosse squad to turn things around soon. Their next game is set to be against St. Joseph’s at home on April 12 starting at 4:15 p.m.
