Girls soccer wins tournament, track and field teams take first in weekend Invitationals

Weekly Sports Update April 24-May 1

Last week the Lancers went 3-0. In their first game against Parkway West, they shut out the Longhorns 9-0, April 25. The next day, the Lancers faced Parkway West again and won 7-2. The Lancers continued their winning streak with a 13-3 win over Webster Groves, April 29. The Lancers will play Battle of 109 rivals, Eureka, twice this week. First they travel to Eureka May 2. The next day, the Lancers will play Eureka at home at 4:30 p.m. They will finish off their week at Timberland, May 5.

Boys Golf
At the Rockwood Quad, April 27, the Lancers placed third out of the four Rockwood high schools. The Lancers will play in the Suburban Conference Yellow Pool Tournament on May 2.

Boys Lacrosse
The Lancers beat Holt 15-6, April 24. Then they went on to beat Parkway West 11-5, April 26. Then they will play Priory at 7:45 p.m. at home, May 4. Their season record now stands at 11-2.

Girls Lacrosse
The Lady Lancers went undefeated last week with three wins. First, they beat Pattonville 12-1, April 26. Senior Kara Niewoehner scored five goals in the win. Next, they beat Cor Jesu 12-8, April 28. This time, senior Natalie Tomljenovic had five goals. To cap off their flawless week, the Lady Lancers beat St. Teresa’s 13-9. The Lady Lancers will have two home games next week. On May 2, they face Villa Duchesne at 5:30 p.m. On May 4, they will play MICDS at 5:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer
The Lady Lancers won the Orchard Farm Tournament. With an 8-0 win over Lutheran St. Charles and 5-1 win over Orchard Farms, they advanced to the finals. Against North Point, the Lady Lancers won 4-0, with freshman Carly Swan scoring a brace from two corners. All five of Swan’s goals have come from set pieces this season. The Lady Lancers’ record stands at 11-2. The Lady Lancers travel this week to take on Eureka in the Battle of 109 May 2. Then they will face Timberland May 5.

Boys Tennis
The Lancers were swept twice this week. They lost 9-0 to Marquette, April 25. Then they lost 9-0 to Parkway West, April 26. They lost 7-2 to Kirkwood, April 28. The Lancers were swept 9-0 by Timberland  May 1 and Parkway Central on their home courts May 2.

Boys Track and Field
The Lancers won the Parkway South Patriot Classic Invitational. Seniors LJ Groenewald, Brycen Compton, junior Isaac Jovcevski and sophomore Robbie Preckel all won their respective events. Groenewald won the 1600-meter, Compton won the 800-meter, Jovcevski won the long jump and Preckel took first javelin.

Girls Track and Field
The Lady Lancers won their Eureka Invitational. They got first place in six different events. Senior Grace Tyson won in the 1600-meter. Junior Natalie Barnard won in the 3200-meter. Sophomores Avery Brown and Lauren Pauls won in the 400-meter and 800-meter, respectively. The 4×400-meter team of Barnard, Brown, Pauls and freshman Kylie Nichols won. In the distance medley, the team of Barnard, Tyson and sophomores Mizelle Groenewald and Lila Dantuono, took first place.

Boys Volleyball
The Lancers had a 6-1 the week. The Lancers swept Oakville 3-0, April 25. On the next day, they swept Westminster 3-0. On April 29, the Lancers hosted the Lafayette Tournament. In this tournament, the Lancers swept O’Fallon, Chaminade and Francis Howell 2-0. However, they lost to De Smet 2-0 in the semifinals. The Lancers beat Parkway Central 3-2 on May 1. The Lancers play Parkway South at home May 2 and Northwest May 4.

Boys Water Polo
In their conference game, April 25, the Lancers beat CBC 8-6. Later in the week they played in the John Burroughs Invite and were crowned co-champions. They won 17-7 against Parkway South, 15-10 Marquette, 16-6 John Burroughs, Clayton 15-1 and tied 14-14 with Oakville. The Lancers will play De Smet at home at 5:30 p.m., May 2.

Girls Water Polo
The Lady Lancers placed 6th at the Lafayette Invitational. They lost 13-6 to Marquette and 15-4 to Oakville. They won 12-8 against Parkway West and 10-8 against Kirkwood. They lost the 5th place game 15-5 against Parkway North. The Lady Lancers will have a rematch with Parkway North May 2.
