Girls swimming has undefeated week, girls basketball continues its winning streak

Weekly sports update Dec. 13-Dec. 19

Boys Basketball
As a capacity crowd watched, the Lancers fell to District rival Marquette on Dec. 17, 50-47, bringing the season record to 3-2. In the game, junior Matt Haefner brought his three-point field goal total to nine for the season. The team takes on Eureka Dec. 21 at home at 7 p.m.

Girls Basketball
On Dec. 14, the Lady Lancers kept their winning streak alive after a tight one against the Oakville Tigers, 40-37. Senior Andrya Roach led the team with 12 points. On Dec. 17, the team faced off against Marquette, defeating them, 57-48, bringing their streak to four wins. Their final game before Winter Break is against Eureka at home Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

The only game for the Lancers this week was Dec. 17 where they fell to the Edwardsville Tigers, 4-2. Junior Spencer Xu and sophomore Kyle Kraft had the only goals of the night. Currently, the team record sits at 2-7-2, and they’re looking to gain a win on Dec. 20 against Francis Howell at Maryville Hockey Center at 9:30 p.m. Also coming up over break, the team will hold its annual Alumni Game on Dec. 26 at 8 p.m. at the Maryville Hockey Center and Senior Night will be against Chaminade Dec. 27 at Maryville at 7:45 p.m.

Girls Swimming and Diving
The Lady Lancers defeated the Lindbergh Flyers, 140-48, on Dec. 14. Later in the week on Dec. 17, the team went on to beat Parkway Central, 132-54. They will take on Timberland at home after Winter Break on Jan. 5 at 4:15 p.m.

Boys Wrestling
Continuing their undefeated streak, Lafayette beat Lindbergh, 68-6, on Dec. 15. Some wrestlers who got pins included sophomores Dylan Roth and Andrew Wier and freshman Aidan Schoen. The Lancers look to continue dominating in the circle against Eureka High School on Jan. 5 at Eureka.

Girls Wrestling
The Lafayette girls wrestling team beat Lindbergh, 48-30 on Dec. 15. The team was led by pins from senior Seraphina Blackmon, junior Grace Ortman and sophomore Maddie Johnson. The Lady Lancers will compete in the Wonder Woman Tournament at Battle High School on Dec. 29. “I am excited for the rest of the season. We have a big tournament coming up called Wonder Woman. A lot of good teams attend, and you can win a belt if you are the champion,” Blackmon said.
