The Rockwood Outstanding Service in Education (ROSE) Award is given to a teacher, staff member or volunteer in recognition of their devotion to supporting and providing for the Rockwood community. Nominations for the 2021 ROSE Award are now being accepted through Jan. 28.

Lafayette vocal music teacher Christy Shaffer was one of over 200 candidates selected as a ROSE Award nominee last year.

I was completely shocked and surprised the day that I was told about the nomination and so thrilled and appreciative of the pin, flowers, balloon and certificate that came with the delivery of the news. Even though I was not chosen as a recipient of the final award, I can say that being nominated was one of the highlights of my teaching career,” Shaffer said.

Nominations can be submitted by any student, staff member, parent or community member. Students and past ROSE Award recipients are not eligible for nomination.

On the ROSE nomination form, each person will be asked to submit basic information about their nominee as well as provide some details about the nominee in the four basic areas the award recognizes:

  • Character
  • Leadership
  • Performance
  • Service

After Jan. 28, the ROSE Awards committee will read and consider all of the nominations that are submitted. Nominees will be recognized by the committee in February the 15 winners will be announced in early March.
