Rockwood School District’s Proposition T (Thrive) is an upcoming bond issue aiming to support Rockwood schools and students. The bond issue focuses on two main changes to the school district: increased classroom sizes and improvements to student technology resources.

Prop T aims to build a new Eureka elementary school and re-purpose the existing Eureka elementary school for early childhood education to accommodate for the 2,300 new homes expected to be built within the Eureka area in the next five years.

“The timing and reasons for this bond issue are driven primarily by the compromise to our recent class size efforts, especially in our elementary grades. The growth that is coming has the potential to ripple a redistricting effort district-wide, while also sending class sizes in the wrong direction,” Rockwood Superintendent Eric Knost said.

Prop T is also planned to help fund the districts one-to-one program, which aims to equip every Rockwood student with a personal electronic device.

“This bond issue will allow us to continue with our efforts to move in the direction of a one-to-one student to computer ratio. This is putting technology into the hands of every kid. We are slowly rolling this out and (Prop T) allows us to continue doing that,” Knost said.

Prop T is a $95.5 million bond issue that will not raise the current Rockwood tax rate. A four-sevenths (57.14 percent) majority is necessary for passage on April 4.
