During the Advanced Placement (AP) Language & Composition exam, students were struck with surprise as the Wildwood Hotel lost all of its power, leaving students in the dark. “The power went out, but I kept writing because I didn’t know what to do. After a while they told us to put down our pencils, close our test booklets then sit in the dark for a little bit. They later told us to go sit in the hallway, then we waited another 45 minutes,” Sarah Dobson, senior, said.

Regarding the attention of students, Language Arts teacher, Jeffrey Landow spoke his confidence in his students. “I have faith that my AP students are going to be just fine and that a power outage is not going to distract them or derail them. That being said, having a break like that in the middle of the test will derail your train of thought a little bit. That’s inevitable. I’m just hopeful that they were able to get back on track, but I have faith that they were able to.”

The test coordinators kept track of time as soon as the lights went out and made sure the students were not fiddled out of any time for their exam.
