Weekly sports update: Oct. 28-Nov. 3

Boys Cross Country: Lafayette finished in second place at Sectionals on Nov. 2 with a score of 93, edging out rival Marquette by one point. Senior Aiden Murphy placed in 9th and sophomore Nikolas Malek placed in 26th. They qualified for State for their 8th year in a row, and will travel to Columbia, Missouri in the upcoming weekend for their final race of the year. 

Boys Soccer: The Lancers fell 7-0 at home to the top-ranked Rockwood Summit Falcons on Oct. 28, but picked up a 1-0 win at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) on Oct. 30. They will play in their first District game on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. against Marquette. 

Boys Swimming and Diving: The boys swimming and diving team did not play this week, but they will next compete in the Suburban Conference Swim Meet at Lindbergh High School on Nov. 5.

Field Hockey: The Lady Lancers fell 2-0 against Nerinx Hall on Oct. 29. Their final record for the year was 14-9-2.

Football: The Lancers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Lindbergh Flyers 31-7. The final record of the year was 7-3, an improvement from 2018’s 3-7.

Girls Cross Country: Freshman Grace Tyson finished in 1st place at Sectionals on Nov. 2. The Lady Lancers finished in 3rd place overall with a score of 103, and will compete in State at Columbia, Missouri in the upcoming weekend.

Girls Volleyball: The girls volleyball team defeated Eureka in three sets in the District Championship on Oct. 30. They also advanced through the state bracket, consecutively taking down Oakville and Cor Jesu on Nov. 2. The Lady Lancers will face off against the Liberty Blue Jays on Nov. 8 and, if they win, will progress to the State Quarterfinals the following day.
