Lancers upset top seed Summit, advance to District Finals

Ben Rachell & Kelly Panzitta, Sports Reporters

Going into their second Districts game, the Lancers were viewed as the underdogs up against Rockwood Summit. Starting the season with numerous losses, the Lancers have overcome the adversity by winning 10 of their last 11, including last nights game 71-60 clinching their spot in the District Finals for a rematch against Eureka. This is the second year in a row the Lancers uhave reached the District Final, however this year, they are looking to hang up a banner.

Junior Nate Messer stepped up with 22 points, and was a major factor in the win. Also contributing to the Lancer’s solid performance, senior Kamron Emamjomeh and junior Evan Scales combined for eight 3 pointers on the night.

The District Championship will start at 7:15 on Friday Mar 1 and will feature a matchup of bitter rivals. Earlier this year, the Lancers were defeated by the Wildcats in a tight game 49-48. In order to win Friday, the Lancers will need to contain Mason Bendigo, who scored 32 points in Eureka’s last matchup against Marquette. Fortunately for the Lancers, the Wildcat’s Gino Green will not be able to play on Friday for religious purposes.

The Lancers will look to contain Tyler Jordan, who went off against them in their earlier matchup during the regular season.

Tickets are available in the Activities Office and at lunch. Sales will be going through Friday and are only $4. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
